Mr Prasanth,
I have already given these details to
customer service at least 3-4
times over email and over phone. All you
do is to reply saying that we
will look into it. I have got tired of it.
All the details are with
customer service under a number of
complaint numbers(each time you have a
new complaint number also). I have all the
details as copies of emails.
But I don't think there is any point in
sending it to you again to get
another complaint number.
If there is any intention from the part
of TATA to solve the issue, it
would have been done already.

Dear Editor Sir,

I am writing to you
about a really bad
experience I had with
one of the biggest companies in
India. Note that this is not a
lone experience

by me and there are a number
of people who put their bad
experience on the

web, not to speak of the
majority who usually do not
bother to do so.

Even after 2 months of sending
emails the their customer care
and nodal

officers, there is no positive
development. Hence I decided
to approach

the press to at least let the
people know of the details.

===

I went for a one-month
academic visit at Poland
during sept-oct. Before I

left, I was advised to get a
telephone card so as to make
calls home

without hazzle. After some
research, I found out that
TATA INDICOM offers

global calling cards which
could be used to make calls
from Poland for 6

Rs per minute. They have given
the numbers to be dialed from
Land-phone,

mobile phone or pay phone for
each country. Poland was
listed. To make

doubly sure, I called the
customer service to verify. i
was advised that

it is possible.

So I purchased a card for INR
561 with a talk value of 500
INR.

Once I reached Poland, I tried
to make use of the facility.
Naturally, the

most easily available in a
foriegn country is a payphone
and I tried with

it. It connected to the tata
indicom number, asked for pin
number,

announced the credit balance
and asked to dial the
destination. Once you

dial that, it says, sorry the
call can not be made from this
phone. So I

tried twice more with the same
result from different pay
phones and

different destination numbers.
This cost me some money as
well for the pay

phone charges.

Then Onec I reached my host, I
tried to call from their phone
as well.

That also did not work.

Finally I decided to report it
to the so-called customer
care. I got a

reply on the next day asking
for details of pin and other
details of calls

I made etc. I sent it and that
is the last I heard from them.
Even after

queries, no further reply. I
called up the customer service
and after

giving the details again I was
told I will get further
instructions in a

day or two. Again that is the
last I heard of him.

Finally my visiting period got
over and I came back to India.
Next day I

reported it to the nodal
officer in Chennai asking for
a refund, who

forwarded it to the customer
care again!. I got a prompt
reply saying that

the technical team will
contact me soon. Again that is
all. For last one

month no reply even after
repeated enquirers.

Kindly publish a column about
this in the news paper and let
people know

what to expect when they go
for such irresponsible
companies.

Customer care of TATA Indicom

I am creating this blog entirely because of one reason. Other people should not have the same experience that I am going through after purchasing a global calling card from TATA Indicom.

I went for a one-month academic visit at Poland during sept-oct. Before I left, I was advised to get a telephone card so as to make calls home without hazzle. After some research, I found out that TATA INDICOM offers global calling cards which could be used to make calls from Poland for 6 Rs per minute. Since I believe this kind of irresponsibility can not be taken lightly, I am planning to approach the judiciary. Before that I would like to know if any of you had such problems with customer care in anything from TATA Indicom which would be useful. I also want to make people aware that this is to be expected from this kind of companies.

My communications with TATA INDICOM appears as the next comment. The latest reply from them is after sending a cc of the above to tataindicom nodal officer.

Here is the communication from them

Dear Mr Ravichandran,

I had purchased a Tataindicom global calling card on 12th
September for 561. I was visiting Poland and wanted to make use of the
facility to call home.
When I tried to call from Poland using the given numbers, it asks for
the pin number and once I enter the pin number, after the announcement
of balance, it asks for destination number. But soon after the number
is entered in the prescribed form it never used to connect. It is
clear that the connection was not through, as the balance is still
intact. It happened a few times and I immediately reported to your
customer care. The communication could be found below, but no response
was received after the initial reply. Afterwards I called up the
customer care and got a reference number 87561243. I was told that I
will be reported about what could be done within 2-3 days. I am back
to India now and have not been able to use your card which I had
purchased for Rs 561. Not to mention the expensed incurred to me for
making calls to your customer care and the troubles. After all these I
was not able to make a single call home using your service. I had to
make other arrangements myself.

I hope to receive a full refund of the costs with the least delay
possible. I am a research scholar from Tata Institute of Fundamental
Research, Mumbai, currently working at the Institute of Mathematical
Sciences, Chennai India and TIFR mumbai . Lots of students from IMSc,
and TIFR go for visits abroad and would like to make use of these
services, if they work properly. Unless, you can rectify problems and
improve your customer care, I can assure you that no students from
TIFR, IMSc, HRI and I.I.T Madras are going to make use of your
facilities.

Do not consider in the wrong way, but unless your response is
improved, I am planning to forward the details to the research
community of the above mentioned institutes, so that they do not have
to go through the same.

I am also willing to go to the consumer court to avoid such problems
in future, if a proper compensation is not made.

I am writing all possibilities now itself, since I do not like to
send replies to a number of email queries and waste my time.

I expect a reply in 3-5 business days by the latest.

Sincerely yours,
